If you visit the Brooks-Hummel trail, you may see trees that have been marked with fabric ties. Some community members have contacted the church about these trees, worrying that they were marked for cutting.
In fact, the opposite is true. First School is constructing a nature play space for the children, and that has involved clearing brush and removing invasive species from the area. The trees were marked to make sure that they are not removed in the course of this work.
The owls
Recently, community members have been particularly concerned because there are owls nesting in the pine trees! The owls can be seen early in the morning. Cathy Hairston caught a snapshot of one of the owls — you can see it if you look closely at the picture at the top of this page.
FUPC is blessed by the presence of wildlife on the church campus. We often see deer, foxes, and other critters at the church. Now we can also see owls.
