Parade of Lights

Decorating the outside of your home for Christmas? Wishing there could be some fun social festivity to this special Christmas season? Willing to have friends from our church drive by your house to see your lights?

Like Mary and Joseph as they made the journey to Bethlehem, the Fellowship ministry is planning an evening when we journey out into the night and come to the light of the star shining over the newborn Baby, lying in a manger.

There are two important things to note about this special event!

1. If you are decorating the outside of your home for Christmas, consider adding it to our parade!

We will need some of your homes to light the way!

If you’re willing to have the congregation drive by to see your décor in our Parade of Lights, please call Rosie in the Church Office (442-4411, 8:00 am -2:30 pm, Monday-Friday) by December 17 to offer your home for our journey.  We’d like to post your name and address in a church email.  This is not a decorations competition—just an opportunity to be connected in a new way to each other. If you want to wave from inside your front door or porch, or have carols playing on a speaker outdoors, you are welcome to add those or other touches of joy, but they are not expected.  No one will get out of cars on the route.

If you feel that your home is too far out of the way or in an inconvenient location, please don’t let that stop you from adding it to the list. Our “parade” is not going to be a specific route. Families will be invited to visit what homes they wish. Your home may be in a very convenient location for some church families, and not for others! Please consider adding it to the list regardless.

2. Families are invited to “parade” the list of homes on December 21!

We will post the list of homes for our “parade” as early as December 18, but we are encouraging families to consider doing the “parade” on December 21. You and your family will be able to choose which houses you visit and how long you can devote seeing the lights.

On December 21, we ask that everyone end their journey at the church Nativity sometime between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. There will be Food Angels across from the Nativity. Like the Magi, you are all invited to bring canned food to put on the Food Angels’ shelves for our community.  These items will be distributed for Christmas through Cooperative Emergency Outreach.  As you depart, you will be given a small gift from the Fellowship ministry.  May the Light of Christ shine brightly in this Holy Season!
