Crosses turn up in many places at FUPC. We currently use a digital directory, but for many years we had a physical directory people could keep with their phone books (remember those?). The physical directories had photos of the church on the cover, and of course the photos included the striking cross on the roof of the sanctuary.
We scoured the library for crosses and found copies of some of these historic directories, complete with crosses. A church directory is more than just a list of names and numbers. It’s a powerful tool that strengthens the bonds within a church community.
By providing contact information and photos, a directory allows members to connect and build friendships beyond Sundays. Newcomers can easily find others who share their interests or life stages, creating a welcoming atmosphere and a sense of belonging.
A directory facilitates communication between staff and members. They can easily find contact details for each other, streamlining everything from coordinating church events and volunteer opportunities to simply checking in on one another. Ministeries also thrive when they can connect with members who have the skills and interests to contribute. A directory allows church leaders to identify individuals who might be a good fit for specific volunteer opportunities or ministries. This targeted approach can lead to more effective and fulfilling ministry work.
Seeing ourselves included in the directory reminds us that we are valued as an integral part of the church community. This sense of belonging is essential for building a strong and supportive church family.
A church directory fosters connections, communication, and a sense of belonging, all of which contribute to a vibrant and thriving church community.
Are you in the church directory? Is your picture current enough that everyone can easily recognize you and put a name to your face? Can you use the directory to find other members of your church family? Amy McCann will be delighted to help you get to know the directory, join fellow members in the current directory, and keep your photo up to date!
