We don’t usually think about Chrismons during Lent — we enjoy them during Advent and Christmas. But this year for Lent we are scoping out all the crosses at FUPC, and that certainly includes many of the Chrismons.
Chrismons are monograms of Christ’s name. They are special white and gold ornaments made in many traditional shapes. Last year, a group of women in the church made a new set of Chrismons for the Chrismon tree, which is set up in the sanctuary each year.
The Chrismons include multiple crosses of different types. The one at the top of this post is a budded cross. Also called an Apostle’s Cross, this cross has three buds on each arm to remind us of the Holy Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
